Thursdays Together - The Laramie Project

Date:
Thursday, November 8, 2007 - 8:00pm
Location:
Marquette Theater at Loyola University, 6363 St. Charles Avenue, New Orleans

The second Thursday of every month, join us for an Equality Social that we’re calling “Thursdays Together.” On November 8, we’ll gather together at Loyola University’s Marquette Theater for an invigorating production of THE LARAMIE PROJECT.

In October 1998, Matthew Shepard, a young gay man was discovered bound to a fence on the outskirts of Laramie. He was savagely beaten and left to die. His death became an American symbol of intolerance, but for the people of Laramie, the event was deeply personal, and it is their voices we hear in this extraordinary theatrical production. More than 200 interviews with the people of Laramie were conducted. This intensely moving production puts us in touch with our common humanity by presenting us with a single brutal event that threatens a town’s presumptions of decency, tolerance and religious faith.

The Human Rights Campaign has recently helped pass the Local Law Enforcement Hate Crimes Prevention Act through Congress in honor of Matthew Shepard and everyone else targeted on the basis of their sexual orientation or gender identity.
